The Sustainable City of the Future
In the Fall of 2014, my classmates and I were to given the task of envisioning a city south of the National Mall in Washington DC three generations from now, which returns to more traditional, sustainable building types and modes of transportation. Our project built on the work of students two years previous, just to the North of our site. Our proposal included flooding the existing expressway to connect our city with Anacostia to the East, and returning to a smaller walkable scale.
As the first part of this semester-long project, I designed three buildings and a sunken baptistry along the waterfront. After that, I developed a portion of the urban design and a transect code based on historic DC. Later, I coordinated our group's individual projects in CAD and Sketchup. |
